10 Common Mistakes to Avoid When Writing Your Ebook

Writing a best selling Ebook is not difficult...but only if you do it correctly. If you are serious about becoming an Ebook author, you must avoid the following 10 mistakes. Any one of these will limit your success.

You must not:-

1) Use someone else's work.

Do NOT plagiarize somebody's book or work. Use other Ebooks, Google and articles etc for study only. Make notes of the information you want to use then re-write it in your own words focusing on your analysis of the subject

2) Pick subjects that have been done countless times previously.

Avoid topics that have been published numerous times previously e.g. "Stop Smoking in 7 Days" unless you can put a new angle or your individual slant on it. Either try and come up with a wholly different approach or better still deal with an new topic.

3) List your Ebook on Ebay for Digital Delivery

Ebay barred the sale of digital books for immediate delivery last year, so do not try to do this. On Ebay you must offer your book as a physical product - usually a CD ROM. While this takes a little added effort, you can use this to your benefit by including other information, and links to partner sites etc on the CD. Use the CD as a means of promoting yourself and your business. In addition a physical product like a CD has more perceived value than a download.

4) Neglect Promoting Your Ebook

Don't just publish your Ebook and expect it to be snapped up itself. Folks have to hear about it - it has to be seen. Apart from selling it on Ebay you can incorporate it in your own Ebook store and have it listed in an E-Book directory. E-Book directories allow you to list your E-Book on a directory site with other E-Books

5) Rush and Put up Weak Ebay Listings

There are hundreds of Ebooks for sale on Ebay. You will be competing with them. You must make your listing stand out. A good Gallery photo is a great place to begin, as is an eye catching title for your book - see fault No 8

6) Lack of research

Never ever waste your time producing an Ebook without first studying your chosen subject. No matter how fascinating you may find something, if no one else does you are wasting your time and energy going any further with that topic. Do some research on Google and Ebay and see what people are searching for and more importantly what are they actually buying? A quick check on Ebay "Completed Listings" is a good place to start.

7) Not Proofread your book

Ok so you have put a lot of effort and time into writing your Ebook and you can't wait to begin selling it. But... before you do you MUST proofread it, then proofread it again then yes...proofread it again. Your book will loose its authority very quickly if there are spelling errors, grammar that doesn't make sense and links that don't work. Proof read it in the evening before you go to bed, then do it again the next day when you get up the next day.Even better still - get somebody else to proofread it after you have. A fresh pair of eyes will see things you have missed.

8) Choose a poor title for your Ebook

No matter how great and valuable your Ebook may be, it's not going to help anyone if no one buys it. No matter what the theme is, you will be challenging with other titles for your potential buyers attention. If your title does not compel them click for more information, they are gone - probably for ever. Spend as long as it takes to get the title right.

9) Neglect to include bonuses and links to other products with your Ebook.

All the great Ebook sellers include bonuses along with their Ebooks. This is typically other Ebooks which are easily purchased with resale rights. Make up a bumper package of books in the same subject as your book and you will be able to charge much more for your projects

10 ) Stuff your book with "filler" and "fluff"

A common mistake you must avoid. You create a 6 page Ebook, but you want to publish a 10 page one, so you pad it out with ineffective filler. OK you have sold your book, but apart from the constant stream of buyers wanting their money back, you are never going to get repeat sales. Simple remedy is don't do it - make sure your book only contains good content - fresh helpful content that provides good useful information even if it means a slightly smaller book.

Avoid these simple mistakes and you have taken the first steps on your way to becoming a successful Ebook author.
